This LA Times story comes from the so sad it’s funny file:

The Judge Alex Kozinski told the LA Times he didn’t realize the website was publicly accessible and thought he was the only one who could view it. He was also overheard saying “the Interweb is a series of tubes!”

An obscenity trial in Los Angeles federal court was suspended today after The Times reported that the judge presiding over the case has maintained his own publicly accessible website featuring sexually explicit photos and videos.

Early on the article mentions some fairly mild if not kinky photos on the site. But later on adds this:

The sexually explicit material on Kozinski’s site earlier this week was extensive, including images of masturbation, public sex and contortionist sex. There was a slide show striptease featuring a transsexual, and a folder that contained a series of photos of women’s crotches as seen through snug fitting clothing or underwear. There were also themes of defecation and urination, though they are not presented in a sexual context.

The Judge says he must have uploaded the photos by mistake. I don’t know this guy from adam but he is 59 years old so….

 First of all thanks to the folks at Fox and all the other MSM outlets who came out and covered the show.  It was great to see our exhibitors and our industry get the recognition they deserved and to see the MSM understanding just how influential our industry is and the significance of this inaugural event.

This is actually pretty funny. First the Fox report filed on Thursday.  and then this goof video that Smidgets did for us about a month ago.  How did Curb know that was the angle the MSM would take?

On a serious note both videos show exactly what I have been preaching to veteran bloggers for  a long time as big as this revolution is now it is just the beginning. Most people in the world have no idea what a blog is.

I really hate announcing this but a couple weeks ago Arianna’s people called and asked if we could reschedule her talk for the Nov 8th Keynote.  We asked them to give us a couple of days to try and rework the schedule as this would effect 3 other people (Jeremy Wright, Roger L. Simon, and Jim Lanzone) who had all made plans to participate in that panel.

After we were able to get all of her co-panelists  to agree to re-arrange their schedules and give their talk on Nov 9th, her office told us she was going to cancel her appearance completely.

I know many of you were looking forward to seeing and hearing from Arianna at the show. So was I. If you are still interested in hearing her speak, it looks like she will now be at the Media and Money conference in New York on November 7th.  Registration is $2,100.

If you plan to attend the Blog World & New Media Expo, are you planning to live blog your experience?  I ask this because I learned something new in the convention and trade show business today.  While discussing a completely non-related convention with its planners and directors, I was trying to find out if I could live blog the event for a client.  “You want to do what?”, was the response as I made my way through the maze of red tape before I was finally told I would probably not be able to cover the event in this way.  It seems that they consider live blogging or posting the experience live through a blog, “siutcasing.” 

Suitcasing refers to businesses or sales people working the show floor selling their services or products without actually purchasing a show booth.  I tried to explain that I wasn’t there as a sales person or there to sell anything on behalf of my client, I was there to report on my client’s blog the experience of attending the show and who was there, what was the buzz, and what were the hot presentations and what was the breaking industry news.  I was a citizen journalist.  Somehow I don’t think they understood the idea behind a blog, or what posting was or how that played into their “No Suitcasing” policy.  I think it is safe to say that the Blog World & New Media Expo welcomes as many bloggers as possible to create a buzz about the show experience.  If you intend to live blog the event let us know and we can do a page of all of those that are posting their experience.  I would love to hear about those that will be podcasting from the show, livecasting the event and reporting on their experience!  I’ll let you know how it turns out with the other conference and whether I actually have to gain press credentials.  Bloggers get no respect!

Today we will be airing our radio show live at Blog Talk Radio and we will be discussing the upcoming Blog World & New Media Expo with Larry Genkin of Blogger & Podcaster Magazine, a sponsor of the expo, and one of the exhibitors of the show. 

We will be doing more interviews as we get the people lined up for the show.  Future interviewees include people like The CEO of Blog Talk Radio, Alan Levy, a speaker and friend appearing at the show and author of Blog Wild! A Guide For Small Business Blogging, Andy Wibbels.  We plan to have other guests on that will be presenting at the show, sponsoring or as exhibitors. These are sneak previews of what is in store for everyone as we near the vent.  Make sure you get registered to meet these people at the show!

That seems somewhat of an oxymoron if you really think about it, a blog conference on the radio, but we intend to cover all the bases here and use whatever tools we possibly can to teach everyone about the Blog World & New Media Expo.  Our first radio show will begin Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. (PST)  Stay tuned for the show where we intend to start interviewing some of the speakers that will presenting at the expo and perhaps even a few attendees.  We will be having some fun with it so make sure to show up and enjoy.  We may even have a prize or two to giveaway, and who knows what can happen with our Vegas streak of ideas.  You can just never tell, but we will tell on the show!

Scoble makes an interesting point about the proliferation of presence apps:

I?ve been watching my friends and they have just been copying and pasting their messages between their various accounts. I don?t like that trend, cause it just means more noise. I must admit I?ve done it a few times when I wanted everyone to know about something.

At some point I?d like to go through my membership on all the above and see how many people are members of all of these (and add in Facebook for good measure). Based on a very cursory look there?s a LOT of overlap. Source: Post to Pownce, Twitter, Jaiku, Tumblr at same time ? Scobleizer

Okay, I’ve done this a couple times, but I think the real key here is to understand the inherent value of each tool.  Blogging…something longer, richer, with more thought and feeling.  Twitter, short and to the point.  Pownce…somewhere in the middle.  I like to use Pownce to announce things to the larger world quickly.  Twitter is, pretty much insular.  Sure I’ll do something like Twitter and Pownce when Jim and I are going doing a Mediasphere Radio show (Tuesday at noon PDT, btw, is the next one and we have the CEO of BlogTalkRadio on!), but I send out an event notice on Pownce followed by a link, on Twitter … it’s just a tweet isn’t it?

What we’re seeing is the explosion of ways to connect and contact each other, but haven’t quite gotten to the point of understanding which ones we like best for which purpose.

I think there will be some consolidation of these apps soon.  Maybe Facebook will buy Twitter and 8apps buy Pownce.  Then Microsoft will buy one and Google the other.  Yahoo, will, sadly, miss the boat.
