After a two-year hiatus, Shay Lia has made a comeback with her latest single, “TAKUTÁ,” a collaboration with Colombian producer Andrés Rebellón. The upbeat track, full of bliss, showcases the Djiboutian-French singer’s unique style and features a dancehall, vogue, and afro-pop-inspired choreography in its accompanying music video.
Lia says the song is a celebration of her singularity and the various facets of herself, influenced by the different places she’s lived worldwide. “TAKUTÁ” follows Lia’s 2021 remix of “Irrational,” featuring Adekunle Gold, and her Solaris EP, which features singles like “All Up to You” and “Love Me, Love Me Not.”
Lia’s debut EP, Dangerous, was made up of R&B, soul, and funk, but with Solaris, she aimed to blend R&B, pop, and Afrobeat. Lia worked with Haitian and Nigerian producers on Solaris, and the songwriting process was incredibly organic and freeing, according to her. She wanted to step out of her comfort zone and commit to her vision, which she believes has paid off in her latest releases.
